Syria opposition army claims deadly security forces ambush
Opposition fighters known as the Free Syrian Army claim to have ambushed a security forces convoy in the province of Deraa. Amateur video shows what the fighters say is the attack, but as is the case with most of the footage coming out of Syria, it can not be independently verified. At least four government soldiers were killed in the ambush, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. In another video, members of the Free Syrian Army appear to be addressing a crowd in Homs. The fighting force, formed in July, is mostly made up of troops who have defected from the state military. The army claims to have no political goal except ousting President Bashar al-Assad. Despite a visit to the flashpoint city of Homs on Tuesday, head of the Arab League observers delegation, Sudanese General Mustafa Dabi, said he saw ‘nothing frightening’ causing pro-democracy protesters to worry the monitors are being kept away from certain areas. There was another day of violence in a city observers are yet to visit, but is on the itinerary. Local activists claim government forces killed six people when they opened fire on thousands of unarmed protesters in Hama on Wednesday.
